Skyhawks earn track victories


Silverado had eight athletes win two events as the Skyhawks swept the boys and girls track meets at Silverado on Thursday.

Dustin Hudpeth (1,600- and 3,200-meter run), Jesse Schelling (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Devon Brabham (long jump, triple jump) and Craig Vacarro (shot put, discus) each won two events as Silverado's boys team scored 136 points, beating Basic (45) and Laughlin (5).

In the girls meet, Silverado beat Basic, 102-48. Kathryn Hiteman (100, long jump), Laura Brink (200, 400), Bron Walker (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Lara Saye (discus, shot put) each won two events.

At Palo Verde, Jacina Redden won the shot put and the discus to lead Mojave's girls team (90) to a victory over Palo Verde (57) and Virgin Valley (37).
In the boys meet, Mojave won all four relays, finishing first with 80 1/2 points. Palo Verde (69 1/2) was second and Virgin Valley (36) third.
At Las Vegas, Lillie Williams won the triple jump, long jump and 200 as the Wildcats (107) beat Valley (67) and Western (64).
In the boys meet, Kenny Craig won both hurdle events as Las Vegas (149 1/2) easily outpaced Valley (65), Western (39 1/2) and Trinity Christian (8).

-- SWIMMING -- Cimarron-Memorial's

Kevan Moezzi, Dustin Williams and Sean Parkes each won two events as the Spartans beat host Basic, 140-82.
Jackie Hurley, Jennifer McCurdy and Janelle Hall were double winners for Cimarron's girls as they beat Basic, 158-147.
At Basic, Will Pulgarin and Kevin Joyce each won two events as the Eldorado boys team defeated Cheyenne, 150-106.
At Boulder City, Kara Lundgaard won two events to lead Boulder City's girls team to a 110-58 victory over Bishop Gorman. In the boys meet, Gorman beat Boulder City, 68-56.

Tyler Mays shot a 31 as Bishop Gorman beat Mojave 168-204 at Eagle Crest.
At Badlands, Justin Anderson shot a 36 as Durango beat Palo Verde, 203-237.
At Paiute, Randy Cox and Nick Serrano each shot 39 to lead Bonanza to a 206-255 victory over Clark.
At Boulder City, Travis McComb shot a 38 to lead the Eagles past Eldorado, 211-254.

Bear Delp's two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh lifted host Boulder City past Basic, 6-5.


Amber Clutts pitched a one-hitter, striking out seven and walking three, as host Eldorado blasted Western, 10-0.


Garrett Nielson had 18 assists to lead host Bonanza to a 15-4, 16-14 victory over Eldorado.
At Durango, Leo Marler had seven kills to lead the Trailblazers to a 15-7, 15-11 victory over Vo-Tech.
At Cheyenne, Ryan Christensen had nine kills to lead the Desert Shields to a 16-14, 15-7 victory over Las Vegas.
In other matches: Cimarron-Memorial beat Rancho 16-15, 15-9; Green Valley beat Bishop Gorman 15-8, 15-10; and Silverado beat Clark, 15-9, 14-16, 15-11.
